Online copywriting is surely the ‘in-thing’ nowadays. That is because with the rapid popularity of the Internet as a medium, people are almost always getting online for many of their traditional transactions.
Yes, the Internet is different from other media in a way that it facilitates the convergence of all types of media portals, be it the television, the radio and the newspaper.
Banking transactions can now be coursed through the Internet, as well as shopping purchases, education, books and basic services. Everything that is sold through the conventional stores can now be sold through the online medium.
Online businesses are making use of the talents and skills of seasoned copywriters, who are hired to provide the Internet site with convincing content that basically aim to sell.
Thus, demand for online copywriting has been accelerated through the years. Many writers see this development as an added opportunity that could be translated into further revenues.
But one problem is arising. It is estimated that only 2% of all online businesses worldwide are actually succeeding to sell products and services online. What happens to the other 98%?
Well, they are left in the cold, probably because the content posted through their sites are not as good and as convincing as those posted by the successful 2%.
What could be the problem? Well, experts have identified copywriting. Is it the fault of the copywriter, or the business owner? The answer is neither. Read on and find out who is the real culprit behind those failures.

Online copywriting is no different from traditional copywriting. Both make sure that the outputs are creating interests among readers and significantly generating sales.
But the problem is there is information overload over the Internet. And there are millions of online businesses, making the competition more intense.
Thus, the ordinary copywriter must strive harder to be more effective that the competitors. And there are thousands of copywriters abounding online that are equally, if not more, seasoned and well-accomplished.
The treatment of online copywriting is no different in a sense that focus is particularly given to the readers. The styles are also the same—persuasion. So why do others beat the rest of the pool of online copywriters?
Effective Online Copywriting
There are a few measures that would help an online copywriter be as effective as he can be. The following are some of the recommended ways on how you can be an effective online copywriter:
·Write for your intended readers, not the online business owners. Many copywriters fall to the trap that they must write to impress, so they use complicated words that the readers must check on to the dictionary to comprehend what he is saying.
·Persuade. Make sure the words you use strong adjectives and verbs that could almost directly command readers to move and make the purchase abruptly.
·Arouse interest among readers. This is where a simple research on the readers’ demographics would set in. If you know their common interest, then you can use that when crafting lead statements.
·Be engaging. Write as if you are personally talking to the intended online users of the content. Do not be overly boring nor too extravagant and vulgar just to catch attention.
·As much as possible, reflect sincerity in your outputs. Sometimes, you have to make some lies to be effective. For example, if you yourself are not believing on the product you are selling, you could do some white lie. But make sure you still sound genuinely sincere.
·Pay particular attention to the content rather than to grammatical correctness. It would be advisable of you remain grammatically flawless, but sometimes, writers find it hard to maintain focus while being overly attentive to the requirements of grammar and usage. Your editor will proofread the material, anyways.
·Be straight-to-the-point. Be concise, but accurate.
Overall, effective online copywriters are motivated to come put with their quality outputs. To establish that much needed motivation, you could bear in mind that in the copywriting world, you are as good as your last output.
Thus, if your copies are good and effective, more projects and clients will come your way. You could generate more income, and enjoy the perks of generating more money to spend on your simple luxuries.

9 Killer Mistakes To Avoid When You Hire a Copywriter

Copywriting is the single most important component of Internet marketing. You need copy that attracts clients and converts lookers to buyers. So when you hire a copywriter, you need to get the most benefit from your investment.
Many of my clients tell me, “I paid for copy and it is sitting in a drawer, not my website.” Or they used up their budget for websites that do not attract clients. So here are 9 killer mistakes most professional service businesses make when it comes time to develop your website.
1. Writing copy – not content strategy.
Copywriting is more than putting words on paper. Your copywriter should help you fine-tune your content strategy before writing a single word.
Who is in your target market? Where is your competition? How are you unique?
Your copywriter should ask a series of questions at the very beginning. Expect to complete a questionnaire or participate in a phone interview. Most likely your copywriter will uncover surprising benefits and selling points. You will also get ideas for giveaways and features to add value and promote your business.
2. Creating a website that drowns out the copy.
Ouch. Every so often I write great copy for a website — and the client gives me a tan font on a beige background. Or a well-meaning web designer creates sites that buzz, whir and chirp. Or the copy gets lost in a sea of images, buttons, icons and more.
Your copywriter should offer to work with the web designer to create a site that attracts clients.
Think of your website resources as a football team.
The copywriter is your quarterback. She (or he) will call plays and move the ball to the goal posts so you can score.
The web designer is your offensive line. He (or she) will protect the quarterback and make sure your message gets through.
3. Expecting miracles.
Every so often I get an email like this: “Can you revise our sales letter so we will start getting lots and lots of sales immediately?”
Well, if you have a compelling offer for a service your market really values, and you attract traffic to your website, you will see fast results.
Often your goal will involve getting visitors to sign up for your ezine, not buy immediately. For a “soft” service like coaching, you will need to build relationships over time. Measuring results will be harder.
4. Asking “just a tweak, please! And hold the heavy stuff.”
Good copywriters can’t just tweak a few words in fifteen minutes. They want to learn more about your target market and your goals. Hire the copywriter for a diagnostic review (sometimes called “blueprint,” “critique” or “breakthrough”). Competent copywriters will include suggestions to improve your copy (even a tweak or two as needed).
5. Choosing one version of copy without testing.
For some projects (especially websites) you may be thrilled with copy and explore no further. I recommend asking the copywriter how to compare 2 versions (and if she can help you). You can compare anything. Which headline works best? Does your photo bring you more sign-ups (or cost you)? Does a blue or a red headline deliver more business?
You test one element at a time. And you must have something to be tested: sales or sign-ups for your complimentary product.
6. Insisting on industry experience.

Some of my most effective work has been with services that were completely unfamiliar when I started. I was forced to ask lots of questions, so I didn’t assume what “everybody” knows about benefits and features. Often your copywriter will import out of the box thinking: what’s old-hat in one industry will be exciting and fresh in yours. When in doubt, test.
7. Choosing a copywriter based on a free diagnostic consultation.
Who’s got time these days? Good copywriters are always busy. I like to say I work for myself, selling my own information products. When times are slow, I become my own best client.
Anyway, a complimentary consultation is nothing more than a sales pitch. You won’t get a sense of what the copywriter can do for you or what he’s like to work with. And you rarely get ideas you can use to bring in revenue. Your whole dynamic will shift when money changes hands.
8. Hiring a friend or relative to write copy.
No one should have to choose between family and business. Enough said.
9. Choosing copywriters by their hourly rate.
Prospects often ask copywriters, “What’s your hourly rate?” Then they say, “Wow – that sounds too high” or “That sounds too low – is there a catch?”
Instead, begin with what you need. If you wrote the copy yourself, you would need at least 20 hours for a website (maybe more) and even more for a long-copy sales letter (10-30 pages). Now calculate your own hourly rate – not the copywriter’s. If you charge 0 an hour and you write your own copy, you give up 20 billable hours or 00.
Or consider how many new clients you might win from better copy. If you average 00 from each new client, and your new website gets you 2 more clients, you break even by paying 00. Hopefully you will get many more.

Obviously a copywriter has something to do with writing. Copywriters can work for themselves as individuals or they can have a variety of clients. A copywriter can work with such places as corporations, advertising agencies, magazines, and so much more.
Most of the time a copywriter will work as parting of an advertising group. Usually, the copywriter has the original responsibility for the advertisement as far as what its going to say, how it will read, and the contents that go into the advertisement itself.
It’s always a good idea for the copywriter to come up with the best ideas and the most effective word content even if the copywriter has to do research on the advertisement.
Believe it or not because the copywriters that are working in advertising and different agencies, copywriters because of the similarities in words think that copywriters have something to do with copyrighting and the laws dealing with copyright.
These are two different careers and are not even in the least related. The only similarity of a copywriter would come with that of a technical writer and their careers may overlap to a certain extent. However technical writing and the technical writer’s job is to inform readers rather than to persuade them.
For instance, a copywriter will write an ad so sell a house, and all its benefits, accessories and potential. While, a technical writer would do writing about the building of the house, the blueprints, the materials and those areas. So, initially there are differences in the copywriter as to the technical writer.
When a copywriter is asked to do a job, they concentrate on “selling” the product through the importance of words. The way they are arranged and the best things concerning the product. Such as why you would benefit from the product.
Internet copywriters are often called on as a team for a website, to of course do the advertising on the web site. While the others in the teams do their assigned parts making it into a great and productive web site. One that will generate traffic, show the people the benefits of the web site products and other aspects of the web site.
Internet copywriters can be expensive, however they take on the ultimate responsibility of literally turning a web site or an advertisement for a web site into a glamorous, why you need to visit web site, or buy the product on the advertisement, by the use of only the words they are writing. Sometimes this can be very difficult for various items or products and sometimes they also have to do research on certain products in order to do the very best job at which they have been assigned.
If products on a web site don’t sell, it is not going to be anyone’s doings but the one who has written up the description of the product or the information on the web site, which of course is in fact the copywriter.
This is why some copywriters get paid as well as they do, their jobs are important; however most copywriters are very good at what they do.

When it comes to internet marketing, the ability to write effective copy is one of the most important skills you will need to have. Many people do not understand how to write good copy, which can cause them to be less successfully than they could be with their online business. Copywriting is an important skill that can definitely increase your success in internet marketing. While some people may hire out their copywriting, knowing how to write your own copy can save a lot of money. If you are not sure how to write quality copy that will bring you more business, here are some excellent tips for copywriting for the web.
Copywriting Tip #1 – Start with a Killer Headline
The first step in copywriting for the web is to write a killer headline. In many cases people who write good copy spend more time on the headline than any other part of the copy. Why? Well you want copy that is going to immediately grab the attention of the reader. If you have a headline that really doesn’t grab your attention, chances are that your reader is going to move on. You only have a few seconds to get the attention of the reader. With a killer headline, you can grab their attention and keep it through the rest of your copy.
Copywriting Tip #2 – Write to Your Target Audience
It is also vital that you write to your target audience when it comes to copywriting. Know your audience first, and then write to them. Knowing who your audience will help you craft a message that will reach out to them. If you are writing to people over 50, then don’t use hip language of teens today. When writing for teens and young adults, you won’t want to refer to events that happened before they were born. If you keep your audience in mind, you’ll be able to craft copy that will reach out to them.
Copywriting Tip #3 – Talk “TO” the Reader
When you are writing copy for the web, make sure that you talk directly “to” the reader. Don’t write to a whole group. You want the reader to feel that you are speaking right to them. When someone makes a comment that is directed towards you, you pay attention. On the other hand, you can easily ignore something that is said to a group. If you make sure that your copy speaks directly to your reader, they will be more likely to pay attention to what you have to say.
Copywriting Tip #4 – Write the Way You Talk
Copywriting is different from other types of writing. In this style of writing, it is perfectly acceptable to write the way you talk. You want the reader to feel as if you are sitting there talking to them. Make sure your words are simple, just like you were talking to a good friend. If you are not sure if you have accomplished this, read the copy out loud to see if it really sounds natural.
Copywriting Tip #5 – Emphasize Benefits – Last of all, always make sure that your copy emphasizes benefits of your product or service to the audience. People want to find out how they can be benefited. This doesn’t means you talk about the features. There is a difference between features and benefits. A feature of an expensive watch is a nice wristband. A benefit of the watch is the status you gain by wearing such a nice watch. Understand the benefits your product or service can offer and emphasize these benefits to your readers for great results.
